Gio (Jiwoong) Choi
I’m interested in how the world learns: how people, organizations, fields, and countries attend to information, interact, generate ideas, and make decisions. My goal is to develop measures and interventions that make these dynamics visible and expand our capacity for learning and innovation.
I’m especially drawn to moments when new ideas or technologies rewire how learning happens. This motivates my current focus on AI and how it reshapes individual capabilities and the ways we think and work together. My recent work includes field experiments with AI agents in the classroom, cross-national analyses of AI regulation, and large-scale extraction of skills taught in higher education worldwide.
I’m currently a Research Associate at the Knowledge Lab at the University of Chicago and a Research Data Scientist at Open Syllabus. I earned my master’s degree in Computational Social Science from the University of Chicago, where I was advised by Professor James Evans and received the Best Thesis Award. My training spans sociology, economics, and computer science.
